As mentioned in an earlier post I have been awarded the Lady Cutler Award for services to children’s literature. It is a most spectacular honour!
Of course the dinner that was held in my honour was without the awardee … ME. I was (as you might have gathered by now) in Hong Kong attending my cousin’s wedding. As much as I would have loved being at the ceremony there was no way I was going to miss the feasting and festivities and the fun of a week in Hong Kong with all my relatives for a family wedding!
So … how to do both at once?
Well I couldn’t be there physically but the wonders of this technological age permitted me to log in and say hi and attempt to receive my cup (that’s the trophy) and see Ernie teasingly hold up the framed illustration that I receive – I don’t know who is the illustrator yet but the framed illustration that he was holding up … well it sure looked BIG – all while I was perched in my hotel room. So with my trusty MACBOOK plugged into the hotel intenet facilities here I am listening to my citation (and interjecting with my additional comments too).
Heaps of thanks to all the folks who turned up for the dinner without the awardee and thanks for all those lovely words that were said about me! I truly am honoured to receive this award.
