Meeting Lucy Christopher

What a delighful night – perfect autumnal Sydney evening weather (we are dining outdoors feasting on Pizza at an innerwest pizzeria), scrumptious food and fantastic folks.
Thanks to Sarah Hatton and Scholastic (one of my publishers) for inviting a few of us to gather at a restaurant in Leichhardt to meet the wonderful shortlisted author Lucy Christopher. She is primarily out here from her home in Wales for a family gathering but once her amazing young adult novel STOLEN was shortlisted … well!!!
I am reading Stolen as I write teacher’s notes for the e:lit guide to this year’s shortlisted books. This book is an absorbingly, powerful, rivetting read. It is one to grab. Stolen from a Bangkok ariport, drugged, kidnapped and taken to the Aussie outback where she has to survive, or die, this is 16 year-old Gemma’s story.
The folks in the photo above (with empty plates and full stomachs): Judith Ridge, Lucy Christopher, Sarah Hatton & Stuart Middleton, Susanne Gervay, Bini and lastly, Me. Melina Marchetta also turned up … she had a book to launch first!
It was just delightful meeting Lucy and hearing about her Wales life. We have to entice her to come join the throng here in Sydney (not Wales or Melbourne)! And of course I now have a signed copy of Stolen to add to my shelves.
