Day 1 Sydney Conference

So, last night was just a warm up … today the real conference began with sessions ranging from Kira Lynn (Kane Miller) informing us about the wonderful Australian books that have popped onto their list, Australian Publishing trends; critques; workshops; the world of SCBWI; and of course book launches.
And tonight at our dinner (where folks even dresssed up in robes and pearls) we announced the inaugural winner of the Australian and New Zealand Silver Kite award … now known as the Crystal Kite Members’ Choice Awards … the CKMCA – CONGRATULATIONS to Glenda Milard – who wrote A Small Free Kiss in the Dark – the most popular book from 2009 in our region! Glenda was surprised with a telephone call from Chris and Lin … yes it is true to say that she was rather thrilled!!!
Our conference is a wonderful celbration of Australian Children’s books and it is delightful catching up wtih colleagues that include publishers, authors and illustrators, from around Australia and new Zealand.
