What a wonderful way to wrap up our SCBWI activities for 2010 with our annual Christmas Dinner at the Hughenden Hotel. This year we were thrilled to have Jon Appleton as our guest speaker. Jon has a long history with children’s books starting way back when he was in high school when he created the terrific Ripper Reading magazine! He is back in Sydney and is now the children’s publisher at Hachette. Hooray! Here he is telling us the news (with Kate and Susanne). And he has wonderful plans for his list.
Members also provided updates of their 2010 news and 2011 aspirations and we had a great night of chin-wagging and gossiping. Mylee Joseph (State Library of NSW) was also present and informed us of ways that she can be involved in working with us to promote SCBWI Australian children’s authors and illustrators.
We popped bon-bons, ate way too much, and there were lovely Christmas mocktails – perfect for us non-alcoholic drinkers! All in all 2010 has been very very successful for our members …. roll-on 2011 with gusto!
