Look at my Desk! Dee White

Welcome to the Creating Place of Dee White. Dee has written a number of superb books (DONT miss Letters to Leonardo!) – but now I read that Dee is also a painter … another feather to her quill. Even I discover new truths about my friends gathering these notes!

And Dee is a great blogger too. See some at the end. But for now – have look at Dee’s words for My Creating Place.

********

In my Creating Place I write books for children and young adults, and recently took up pastel drawing because I wanted to create the picture of Uluru that Matt’s mum paints in my YA novel, Letters to Leonardo. So as well as my study being a place to read and write there is now one tiny corner where I draw.

I have learned to ignore the distraction of the view from my window but it still inspires me and reminds me that the world is a beautiful place.

I wanted a desk with history and a story of its own to tell so I spent about twelve months looking until I found the right one — a desk from the old Parliament House in Canberra. I’ve always been fascinated with Leonardo da Vinci and he was the inspiration behind Letters to Leonardo so I have statuettes of him and the Mona Lisa watching over me while I work.

The life of a writer can involve a lot of ups and downs so in my study there is a wall to remind me of my achievements, and a wall of books to inspire me and remind me of the wonderful achievements of others.

My Creating Place usually has a dog or a cat or both in it. The rabbits used to come in but I had to deter them because they kept hopping under my desk and trying to chew the computer cords.
