And here we begin … although a little late as I have already been in Los Angeles for one day attending the SCBWI 40th Birthday celebration here at the Century Plaza Hotel in Beverly Hills – right opposite to a Westfields Shopping Mall (well I am in the USA so the centre has become a mall).
And as usual the conference is a blast but being the special birthday occasion it is this gathering has quite a buzz!
SO – here begins a few snaps of the gathering … and there is no way in the wide wide world I ever imagined a photo with this wonderfully glorious writer Judy Blume. She is / was a surprise guest conference speaker .. but the secret was let out last night at the faculty gathering.
Morning one begins with a gathering of some of the aussie / New Zealand contingent … folks are pretty amazed that there are 11 of us here!
And here I am with my wonderful friend Sarah Davis, the fantasmagorical illustrator for my Sounds Spooky text. This photo was snapped at the PAL Wine and Cheese reception and Booksale – a fine pair we are. I had also hoped to snap a shot of the pile of Sounds Spooky books in the Conference Bookstall – but here at the end of Day 1 there are just a few left! Hooray!

Day 1 is done! So, now to bed!! This is a glorious gathering!
