Day 3 LA SCBWI Conference 2011

Over the hump and on the downhill stretch now.
Day 3 began with breakfast for all the International Regional Advisors – and I will add that it is very hard rising for an early breakfast after a night of heavy partying and 40th birthday celebrations … but I made it! I’m having pancakes for breakfast tomorrow!

A glorious pictorial grab of 40 years of the SCBWI was then projected on the big screens to begin the final official day, first of Lin and Steve and then of the SCBWI – as these shots will show:

Birthday cheering

Sunday is also the day for the GOlden Kite luncheon with extra scrummy desert this year for the 40th,

and then a celebration for the recipients of the awards.
The magestical Richard Peck also spoke in his wonderfully rich way

… the luncheon also included the Member of the Year award (which I received last year) and congrats this year to my pal, Michele Parker Rock, RA for Arizona – well deserved. During our lunch, images of SCBWI faculty and personages were projected … and look who made it. I cannot believe that I was in the same collection as our wonderful friend Tomie dePaola, Linda Sue Park and other SCBWI luminaries.

and then after a few afternoon workshops and a final keynote comes the last CRUSH – the final autograph party.

Day 3 is done. The ‘family’ has conferenced and partied and celebrated the 40th birthday of THE DREAM – dreams do come true …..
All that is left to do is tomorrow’s day of workshop intensives.
