Congratulations Margaret Wild

Last night … what a thrill.
We attended the 30th anniversary dinner for The Lady Cutler Award for Services to Children’s Literature established by the NSW Children’s Book Council. Of course the anniversary dinner was important but to see my dear friend Margaret Wild receive the award this year … what a joy! This is the same award that I received two years ago.
Eddie Coffey was also present. Another bonus. He was the impetus behind establishing the award all those years ago – although he did not envisage males being recipients of the award. That’s why the winner was awarded a cameo (I have the beautiful Bob Graham illustration hanging on my wall) – which we joked about when we chatted together. Margaret received the trophy, the same one that has my name engraved on it.

Roll Call Photo

And as is custom there was a photo call of all past recipients present at the dinner and as can be seen in the photo above nearly half of us were there!

Hooray for Margaret. It really is a well deserved honour.

And last night it was announced that the inaugural Maurice Saxby Lecture will be held next year at the State Library of NSW. May it live on and on and on. Another Hooray and huge thanks to Libby Gleeson and Margaret Hamilton who plotted and planned and got this lecture happening.

And as always happens it was so glorious catching up with friends. It really was a most splendid night.
