Last Tuesday night (yes this is a little late) was a gathering at the Menzies Hotel in Sydney to celebrate Robyn being affirmed as the 2012 recipient of the Lady Cutler Award (the award I received in 2010) presented by the NSW Children’s Book Council of Australia. Lucky Robyn gets to shelter the Wedgewood trophy for the next 12 months. Robyn is a passionate advocate of quality children’s literature being integral to the education of children … read real books … just like a few other folk I know.

Libby Gleeson read the citation for Robyn. There was also a lovely rollcall of past recipients as seen in the photo above, an after dinner address by Libby Hathorn and a presentation to Donna Rawlins who designed the certificate we all receive. This year she finally received her very own framed award – created by Wayne Harris.
For me what was really splendiferous, beside the gathering, was discovering that Robyn’s sister is Jan Ewing, with whom taught at North Sydney Demonstration School very briefly. Jan was at the dinner too so it was a catchup and gossip time for us as well.
Its always a lovely night and this continued the tradition!
