Well I nearly missed getting here last Thursday and that would have been so disappointing!!! I love rocking out to schools for the Books in Homes Crew but the traffic today was a nightmare! Thankfully the school was patient and when I arrived they were waiting for me! I even thought that the song they were singing that i as hearing as I walked into the hall was for me!
It was a fun time there at Emerton. I talked lots about my awesome job, how I write, what I read and of course I read a story or two … Sounds Spooky did the trick. Then we talked about reading and the wonderful books that the kids were receiving. Imagine getting a book-filled catalogue and then choosing your very own books from that catalogue. That’s exciting but then imagine the assembly and receiving those bags of books three times a year how magical! That’s what Books in Homes does for disadvantage kids. SO it’s three cheers for the corporate sponsors for that one. And a drawing was even created of me – thanks Jerry!!
and a picture of me too
But back to Emerton. After the assembly, where I presented bags to two students from each class (the rest of the kids get their bags in the classroom), it was time for Q&A with two classes. They had prepared some wonderful questions … and to those who asked me about my favourite superhero … I am still deciding! And I hope that the kids from Emerton Public School didn’t forget all the magical places I mentioned that books can be read and what to say to their parents when they asked them what they were reading today. Remember ask your parents what they were reading too!
More on the Carolinas later but Pam Vaughan (official photographer for the New England conference last weekend) has just sent me oodles and poodles of photos … so if you don’t want to see piccies of me in action – then look away now! There are photos of me with friends, of me panelling, photos […]
