Surely you can’t spend all day at Central Park Zoo? Well, not quite, but we did spend a lot of the day walking though the zoo. It is small but so wonderful and the animals so relaxed and the exhibits so close! I love this little piece of Zoo wonderment! We also strolled through the lower end of Central Park; listened to a sax player while defrosting and then licking ice cream (he plays a lot of the Sesame Street theme song); visited FAO Schwartz; watched the folks flooding into the park; ate a hot dog for lunch (they don’t offer any onions or extra fillings anymore), supped some not too coffee tasting coffee; ate more New York Cheesecake; overheard more crazy conversations – she did this, and so he did that, and they are all so very messed up.
But then the best part of the day happened at 5pm. The hotel has just started rooftop tours and so come 5 o’clock we joined the masses to ascend the elevators to the very top floor of the hotel and walk up one flight of stairs (weaving our way around pipes and other bits and pieces nearby). Then we were standing there right next to the majestically glorious Chrysler Building and seeing the wonderful art deco architecture and ALL those bricks with just the air separating us! We stood on that rooftop for ages taking in views from every corner. Now this will be an attraction for the next SCBWI winter conference … weather permitting of course!
More on the Carolinas later but Pam Vaughan (official photographer for the New England conference last weekend) has just sent me oodles and poodles of photos … so if you don’t want to see piccies of me in action – then look away now! There are photos of me with friends, of me panelling, photos […]
