Now we are really cracking onto this holiday thing … but first things first. We had to shop for a winter jacket for Bini.
Not a Sydney cold weather one but one appropriate for the northern hemisphere, and some of the stores have the winter stock out now so it’s perfect timing you could say!
Then it was a trip to another end of town to have lunch with the lovely Bonnie Bader. We see each other at the SCBWI conferences and then at the board meetings but not often do we get time to just chat and swap goss and stories – so this we did today over lunch. Yee hah! Her office has gorgeous water views too. After lunching Bonnie took us to a nearby chocolate shop, Jacques Torres (Mr Chocolate) – and all I can say is that if we get held up in customs coming home it will be all her fault. We also did a little bit of damage to the fantastic plastic (our debit card). The chocolate looks delectable! I sure hope it ALL makes it back to Australia.
So while down at the Penguin Publishing end of town we took a metro ride to the World Trade Centre … It is quite spectacular seeing the transformation of the site. Now there is a tower radiating where there was the start of the structure just a few years ago when we were both last here. We made a quick, fleeting visit to the Museum of Metropolitan Art but it was a bit too late for us to get inside for a decent look around. We have also been jumping on and off the subway. Having bought a weekly ticket we sure want to get our value for money – even for one stop – but that might be ten blocks! Riding the subway is easy too – except when you get elbowed out of the way … but we are tough tourists! We just adore the mosaic walls – better than plain tiles … or paint!
Alice in Wonderland
We have done a little shopping for friends. We finally found the desired novelty bandages that weren’t in the suggested location! We are stars! AND we shopped for me too – now that is a rarity!
More on the Carolinas later but Pam Vaughan (official photographer for the New England conference last weekend) has just sent me oodles and poodles of photos … so if you don’t want to see piccies of me in action – then look away now! There are photos of me with friends, of me panelling, photos […]
