Oh it took such a long time to get there but I eventually made it to the 2013 edition of Bookfeast – the annual gathering of authors and illustrators and schools organised and hosted by Michael Fraser – the fantastic teacher librarian at Haberfield Public School. I have a soft spot for Haberfield Primary School, it’s where I went to school. So, because I was a tad late I missed the parade into the auditorium where all the students yell their lungs to oblivion but I did manage to sneak my way to the table 13 – right at the front!
with Girraween Students
What a delight it was to spend my lunchtime with the students from Girraween Primary School. Thanks for the lovely lunch! Thanks for the terrific stories. Thanks for the food we shared, which was shared in some very interesting ways.
Our table was positioned right at the front near the stage which is just great (last year I was in the boon docks) but it is not so great if you are hungry … we were just about the final table to receive their food on which to feast (we all agreed though that one table had to be last) so by that time our food arrived they were nearly eating their fingers – or at least each other – well that at least is what we joked about!! And what a bother! Because I was a tad late I forgot to ask my hosts what were their favourite books. Sigh. One discovery I did make about the students at Girraween School was that there are lots and lots of gigglers there. We listened to the talks, we shared food, we spilt drinks, I autographed lots and lots and lots of books and papers (during the crazy autograph hunt time), and we had fun!
Thanks too, to Mrs Russell (Library Clerical Assistant) who took these lovely photos, because I forgot my camera and would have had no photos to add here.
I hope you all had a safe trip back to school and that you warmed up when you went outside and left the luncheon! And remember – as well as telling your parents what you read today, don’t forget to ask your parents what they read today!
More on the Carolinas later but Pam Vaughan (official photographer for the New England conference last weekend) has just sent me oodles and poodles of photos … so if you don’t want to see piccies of me in action – then look away now! There are photos of me with friends, of me panelling, photos […]
