In conjunction with our mega SCBWI conference Walker Books Australia decided a gathering of their authors and illustrators, a whole bookshelf of whom are attending the conference, would be a fantastic opportunity. So on Saturday we all gathered and had a wonderful day listening to the Walker crew – the publishing team, the sales and marketing team and those who run the show – share with us the Walker programme and also of course the Walker vision. There was lots of chit chatting, information sharing, feasting, more talking, and swapping of books – Walker books of course! It was a buzz to catch up with some of my author and illustrator friends – and I am not going to name them for fear of missing out some … but rest assured there were a lot of us there!!
And for teachers there is a new website (http://classroom.walkerbooks.com.au).
This is my 25th of being published … that little fact to me is quite amazing … and this is the first time that I can remember having a day of this calibre put on by any of my publishers. Some of the newer creative folk might not realise how unusual this is and it must surely be an expensive activity to undertake, hosting all these crazy author and illustrator types. So, huge thanks to Walker Books.
