What a joy to discover that close to where we are staying there is a new exhibition featuring 8 amazing Children’s Book Illustrators – many of these folks I have met! And it is close – only 2 1/2 hours away so guess what we did today? The exhibition – just a few teasers:
The museum, Brandywine River Museum of Art, is in a wonderfully named town of Chadd’s Ford and the exhibit is called Get the Picture! featuring this roll call: Sophie Blackall, Bryan Collier, Raúl Colón, Marla Frazee, Jon Klassen, Melissa Sweet, David Wiesner and Mo Willems. Just adore the work – and especially Bryan Collier’s which was also on display at Salisbury University in the Resource Centre where I was lecturing. The exhibit showcases original art as well as some of the roughs for the digital illustrations. We spent quite some time looking at the art, and re-looking at the art in case something was missed. If you are in the neighbourhood grab a chance to see the wonderful works. Other art is also on show – many pieces from the Wyeth family and original art from Treasure Island – but for me, the kids lit art holds centre stage, of course.
Next stop … Los Angeles for the SCBWI Summer Conference.
