Magabala Picture Books

Here are two super picture books from Magabala Books:

crabbing-with-dadCrabbing with Dad Paul Seden (Magabala Books)

Two children set out on an adventure catching crabs with their dad. Its life jackets and speed boars, family members fishing in the mangroves for mudcrabs … but these two children are catching crabs a different way. They are setting crab pots with their dad – and playing games as they wait. And when they pull out the first pot – oh the crab that they have caught.

The art in this is absolutely appealing with many bold colours and fresh faces on the characters and the well positioned and sized text makes this a great book for young readers.

the-grumpy-lighthouse-keeperThe Grumpy Lighthouse Keeper Terrizita Corpus & Maggie Prewett (Magabala Books)

This newly released paperback edition of the is still charming. On a stormy wet night at the Broome lighthouse (where this story is based) the lighthouse keeper leaves his cosy warm bed to check that the lighthouse lamp was still shining. While he is away his warm bed is infiltrated and a host of sea creatures take residence there – first a crab and then a turtle, an octopus and more sea creatures make his bed their own. and when he returns, to find his occupied bed the animals quickly disperse at his call.

With bold colours and a rollicking predictable text this picture book will be fun for sure. A great introduction to the wonderful sea creatures around Broome.
