from Stephen Mooser:

Here is the article that will appear in the next Bulletin, and is basically what I read at the banquet—

MEMBER OF THE YEAR

The recipient of this year’s SCBWI  Member of the Year is Christopher Cheng , the Co-Regional Advisor  for Australia (with Susanne Gervay).  As Co-Advisor Christopher has helped build the Australian and New Zealand chapters into an important presence in those countries children’s book industry. Additionally he  introduced a number of innovative ideas, including the new Silver Kite regional peer awards, which will soon go worldwide.

An important and influential member of the Australian book and literacy community, he served as Ambassador for that country’s Literacy and Numeracy week from 2004-2008. Author of numerous books, he was honored last year by the Australian Book Council with the Lady Cutler Award  for service in the field of children’s books.  For serving the SCBWI membership with such enthusiasm, creativity and joy we are delighted to be able to express our gratitude to Christopher by naming him our Member of the Year.

As previous recipients of the award will testify, this is a wonderful honour.

What made this day exceptionally special was that my wife was also sitting in the auditorium with me at the luncheon … there was some plotting and planning going on too!

There are photos from the day at these posts:
